I hope you’re all staying cool this summer!
I’m now accepting bookings for select dates this fall for Chinook salmon fishing on the Eel River. This is a catch-and-release only fishery that, under the right conditions, can offer excellent fishing opportunities. The fishery is rain-dependent and typically begins in late October or early November.
Historically, the Eel River was one of California’s most productive salmon fisheries. However, due to a combination of environmental and human factors—such as habitat loss, dams, logging, cannabis cultivation, ocean conditions, and climate change—salmon populations declined for many years. These pressures led to a closure on retention for both salmon and steelhead.
In recent years, the population has shown enough resilience to support a sustainable catch-and-release fishery, with early rains the fishing can be exceptional.
We use a variety of proven techniques including back-bouncing roe, sardine-wrapped Kwikfish, side-drifting, bobber fishing, twitching jigs, and casting spoons such as Cleos.
If you’re interested in joining me for a salmon trip this fall, please don’t hesitate to reach out via phone, text, or email to reserve your date. Availability is limited.
