Eel River Steelhead fishing is my favorite thing to do in the winter months. The Eel River of the Lost Coast is the gateway to the PNW (Pacific Northwest). There really is something special about this magical place. This is my favorite river system to fish in the state of California. Between big tall redwoods, emerald green water, bald eagles, the occasional bear, and big chrome wild steelhead. What more could a person ask for in the heart of winter?! The secret that the Steelhead are making a come back is out. Some of my best days steelhead fishing have been on the Eel River system. I start fishing the Eel after the first big rain in December, I fish from Richardson’s Grove all the way to Rio Dell. As the river conditions drop and clear, I move down the system. Lodging/motels are available throughout the area. If you’re looking for a wild and scenic experience, the Eel River is it!
