Russian River

The Russian river is the heart of the Sonoma County wine country. Russian River steelhead fishing is one of the best options for hatchery steelhead in the state of California. This river is known for it’s great hatchery steelhead run starting in late December, and running through the end of March. Fish size range from 7-12 lbs. with the occasional 15+lb fish. I have been fishing the Russian River for over 25 years. I have private access to float the Alexander Valley when conditions permit, and the fish are up in that part of the system. I mainly focus my attention from Healdsburg to Guerneville as most of the crowd does. I am confident in finding and catching fish in both big water and low/clear conditions. The weather on the Russian varies but usually is quite pleasant for winter steelhead fishing. Wine tasting and local restaurants offer great additions to your fishing trip if visiting from out of town.
